I always maintained a callous attitude toward's cricket but in 1999 when steve waugh weathered the storm to lead Australia to their second word cup, i fell in love with this mysterious but beautifull game. Since then i have been closely following team Australia. Their quench for perfection, the alacrity with which they approached every match flattered me and rightly so i fell in love with these modern day invincibles. The flair of Clarke, confidence of Warne, consistency of Ponting all combined its harmonies into a delicious fugue. I unremittingly followed every match Australia played and documented, analysed debated when rest of cricketing world was tumultuously caught in their vortex of politics.
Its preposterous for me to think that such great team will be remembered for their arrogance after the tempestuous sydney test. The virulent reactions from india and surprisingly australian media is understandable and never before one got to see such righteous indignation, but for few people in media to call for sacking of ponting is abominable. It's easy to get caught in the heat of moment and gibber, but sanity lies in getting to the core of problem, which in my opinion is fallacious umpiring and gloating attitude of few cricketers, which tarnished their image.
The Australians had home crowd, public support, and that air of superiority -- confidence, arrogance, call it what you may. Hysterical reaction to the team's behaviour in Sydney robbed them of that. So much was the animosity, even the invincibles were left enervated with compunction in perth. By no means i am underestimating india's performance which was undoubtebly commendable but a part of the success can be attributed to hosts desultory attempts which was provoked by their civilised nature. I remember in one of Rocky movies, the trainer saying "The worst thing that could happen to a fighter happened to you, you became civilised".
There are huge rounds of debates going on if the invincible are able. To all these cynical souls let me tell - this team was built on a reliable and robust system which has a strong pool of talented young cricketers ready to carry the bastion of australian supremacy. Little do people realise that this loss is a glitch, but the reign will continue, when the invincibles will embrace what they have relinquished. Its just a matter of time before aussies relapse to their winning habit and its just a matter of time before this glitch looks like a small abberation.

hey satish,
this is nice topic! a very bloggy topic: i liked it the way you wrote it. will let you know more details soon! keep up the good work.
Hmmm.. the post is undoubtedly well written but seems to be biased .Even while pointing at the shortcomings of the Australian team , there has been an inclination to downplay their magnitude. They might be the strongest side in the history of cricket but that does not serve as an alibi to indulge in the kind of tactics they do.Nevertheless...a very well composed post but perhaps i have a different vantage point...
